The 4 week challenge is over!
I’ve found that as time as gone throughout the challenge, it has been easier to not raise my voice in anger or frustration. Knowing that I have to come and write about my failures (and successes, of course) has helped! No one wants to give an update of a job poorly done, after all!
What’s more important though, is that although I’ve been accountable to friends and to you lovely ladies, is that I’m accountable to God. And I need to remember that. I can’t hide from Him and sugar-coat anything; He sees it like it is. Thankfully, He loves me all the same! But I know that it grieves Him to see my mistreat His children when I speak unkindly to them.
I’ve noticed that the kids aren’t yelling at each other as much when I don’t yell. They also listen to me more quickly. Go figure! Yelling doesn’t help, anyway!
Over the course of this challenge, I’ve realized how often I speak to my children without respect, even if I’m not raising my voice. Sometimes, I can sound juts plain old mean. That’s not how I want them to remember their childhood! So this is something I really need to work on. My husband has also been noting that he needs to change the way he speaks the the children when he’s stressed, frustrated, tired, etc. as well, even though he didn’t “officially” do the challenge.
One of the other blessings of the challenge is that it seems to have motivated others to take part! I wasn’t really counting on that (only hoping for it!) so it has been great to see all of the comments of “I think I’ll join you” as the challenge has progressed. Even if you are just reading about the No Yelling challenge now, you can do it at any time! It’s never too late!
If you want to catch up on the rest of the Challenge posts, you can find them here:
Also, make sure you check in with Cheryl from On The Old Path and Michelle from Simplify, Live, Love to see how their No Yelling challenge has gone. Michelle is in Paris as I write this but she’ll be writing her update next week. Cheryl has had a lot of out-of-town visitors in the last week but she’ll be posting soon!
Thanks for all of the prayers of support and all of the encouraging comments!
