Completing Him Challenge Week 8

July 27, 2010

So, I missed writing about last week’s challenge..Oops! My task was to prepare my husband’s favourite meals during the week. My husband’s faves tend to be fairly easy…spaghetti, or meals involving meat. 🙂

This weeks challenge was to discuss with my husband where he sees our family in 1, 5, and 10 years, then to share with you how I let him lead in our home.

Louis said that a lot of where he sees us in the future depends on how many children we have (since we have recently decided to leave that up to God completely.) His vision for our family’s future involves me homeschooling (which we’ve been planning on since we had our first son, assuming God allows this by giving Louis an income we can live on without my having to go back to work), Louis moving up at his work, and hopefully him being able to pursue further education in ministry of some sort.

Now, as to how I let him lead…I’ve never had a real problem with that. I trust him to make responsible decisions regarding finances. The first couple of years of our marriage, we were both unwise. I didn’t keep up with finances, and Louis had never really HAD to budget before so he tended to make a lot of impulse buys. Now, we’ve gotten better, though we can always improve in our spending habits.

I give Louis my input regarding choices, but leave it up to him as to what decision will be made in the end. I also know that unless he feels totally guided by God, that he won’t do something I don’t agree with.

We both know that for the roles God has given us to work, we have to respect each other, and make our choices with the other spouse in mind before ourselves.

God bless,

Completing Him Challenge Week 6

July 14, 2010

Oops! I’m a couple of days late on this post!

This week’s challenge was to list 5 things that I do during the day..i.e. different chores, playing or reading with the kids, etc, and ask my husband to prioritize them.

Not too surprisingly, what I thought he’d find more important was actually at the bottom of the list.

Goes to show, we think differently!

A lot of times I’ll find myself annoyed because I think Louis should be doing one thing when he’s doing another. It’s not that he’s trying to slack off though; he just has the list of things to do prioritized differently!

Just something that I have to keep in mind when there’s a list of chores to be done and I find myself grumbling that he isn’t doing what I think he should be doing (especially since I tend to start grumbling to myself without even asking him to do whatever chore it is.)

Have a blessed rest of the week!

Completing Him Challenge Week 5

July 5, 2010

Christian Family
So this week’s challenge is to admire my husband; write up what I admire about him then show him the post. We’re getting ready to leave for camping this afternoon and the car is FULL, so I warned him that his head still had to fit in the car later.

All joking aside, I have a wonderful husband, and though we have had our difficult times, I couldn’t think of anyone else I’d want to be with.

First of all, he’s a Christian. Many Christian women can’t even list that one point. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to have a husband who doesn’t agree with your faith, or worse, to condemn you for it.

He’s smart, and GREAT with numbers. Math is definitely one of his strong points; he can calculate things in his head faster than I can with a calculator at times. He’s persistent. OK, stubborn is another word for it, but it’s a quality that has gotten us to where we are right now. When we first got married, my husband had to work at several new jobs one right after another, one time started one job and only worked there 2 days then started another job later in the week, just because he was trying to find something with a salary that could support the both of us when our son was born as I didn’t have enough hours at my work to qualify for paid maternity leave. I don’t know about you, but I hate interviews and starting new jobs, so I really appreciate the persistence he had to find a good job despite the stress of it.

He’s a loving father. There are studies that show that working fathers spend a tiny amount of time with their kids in a week. Though my husband works an hour away, he goes in to work an hour early each day so that he can have that extra hour at home with us (of course, it’s nice to beat rush hour traffic, too.) He isn’t embarrassed to fool around with the kids, playing at their levels both physically and mentally. The other day when I was talking to my dad on the phone, he asked me if that was a dog he heard in the background. Nope, it was Louis playing with the kids 🙂

My first point was that Louis is a Christian; I think it’s also important to note that he’s striving to become closer to God.

Louis is always trying to figure out what he can do to make my days with the kids easier for me. Though he usually doesn’t hear the kids in the night, just because he’s a heavy sleeper, he almost always gets up with them in the morning on days he’s not at work to let me stay in bed. This means that he NEVER gets to sleep in unless the kids do, despite the fact that he gets up earlier in the mornings on weekdays than I do.

He likes to cook! How many women have a man that can cook (and enjoy WHAT they cook)? Since we moved I’ve been doing more of cooking since he has a longer commute from work, but before we moved Louis was doing at LEAST 1/2 the cooking, and almost all the weekend meals. He also cleans the downstairs of the house almost every Wednesday while I’m at my ladies’ accountability group.

I’m going to cut myself off at this point, because there’s just no way I can list every good trait my husband has. No, he’s not perfect, but no one is. He’s always trying to correct his faults, make things easier for me, and that’s much more important than any fault. He’s the man God gave me for the rest of my life, and I love him, so I’ll keep him.

**On a side note, please keep our family in your prayers while we’re camping. Annabel has a bit of a runny nose, so please pray that she isn’t getting sick, and please pray for safety and good weather for us the next few days. Thanks!**

Completing Him Challenge Week 4

June 28, 2010

Christian Living

This week’s challenge is to ask my husband daily what I can pray for him about, so there isn’t as much to write about yet since the challenge lasts all week. I think this is definitely God’s hand though, since lately both of us have declined in the frequency that we pray for each other, especially together. So I think this is God giving me a boost to get back into the habit of it.

Father God, please be with my husband today. Please give him energy throughout the day, and safety when he drives home. Please help me to remember to pray more frequently for my husband. I thank you so much that you have given him to me! Please help him to show your love to his coworkers and give him opportunities to share your truth with them. Amen
