It’s been quite a while since I’ve knit anything..since just before Zach was born. Life is busy, to be sure, but honestly I’ve just been overwhelmed.
On top of recovering from the delivery and getting used to being up in the night again, we had a really hard cold go through the house. It hit hard; everyone who got it (which was everyone but me) was knocked down for at least week. Malachi and Zach both were hit harder; Zach is still getting congested in the night and it’s been at least two weeks since he started the cold, but thankfully we were able to manage it at home. Malachi has a history of struggling a lot with colds settling in his chest, and Zach is just still so young; I haven’t had a baby that young get sick before. There were a couple of nights that I was concerned we might need to go in to the ER but we managed to avoid it.
We’re slowly starting to get back into a homeschool routine and I finally had the energy and motivation to cast on some socks!
I have several 50g balls of Felici yarn from Knit Picks that I’ve been wanting to use for socks but each ball isn’t really enough for a pair. I decided to split up two balls and just alternate them every few rows and let the stripes happen as they might. For a little while I wasn’t sure if I liked them enough to keep going but now that more colours are appearing on each sock I’m happier with them. I’ve knitting them toe-up two at a time on 2.5mm Addi sock rockets with a 100cm cable. I used Judy’s magic cast on, am knitting them plain vanilla, and plan on doing a fleegle heel on them.
I already have my next socks planned out for when these are finished. I bought some lovely dusty rose coloured yarn from a local dyer in the winter that I have been wanting to use. I am going to use that along with some Kroy sock yarn in flax colourway for the toes, heels, and cuffs. I am going to attempt an afterthought heel for the first time, and am thinking of trying out some sort of pattern for the leg as well. Mix things up from my usual stockinette for socks.
I’m also looking for some recommendations from any knitters out there! The case that my knit picks interchangeable needles came in is in sad order. 2 flaps have already fallen off and the larger one for the tips side of the case is coming off. There are dents and holes in the plastic and I am looking for a new case! I’m a bit overwhelmed at what’s out there so if you have a case you love, please let me know the brand so I can take a look! I’m hoping to find one large enough to hold my tips and cables, notions, as well as an extra fixed circular needle pair or two as well. Thanks!
And finally…some cute baby pictures. Because how could I not?
Zach is 7 weeks now. At 5.5 weeks old he was already 11lbs 5oz. The kids are still in love with him, and I’m pretty sure my daughter has gotten more smiles out of him than I have.
