This pregnancy seems to be flying by! I can hardly believe I’m already a few weeks into the second trimester and quickly approaching the halfway mark.
Overall, it’s been an easy pregnancy so far. I did struggle with some exhaustion and not feeling well the first couple of months but it wasn’t as bad as other pregnancies and even ended sooner than what is typical for me.
I had my first ultrasound a few weeks ago to verify dates. My midwife changed my due date by a few days…not that it really means much but more to give me some extra time before induction came up on the table in the event I went over.
The ultrasound was supposed to be for dating only but the technician also took measurements that go along with the first trimester screening for risk of genetic abnormalities and one measurement came back to be investigated farther, the Nuchal translucency measurement, which I guess means the baby has a possible risk of trisomy 13, 18, or 21.. It’s just slightly over the range of “normal.” Usually they want to see the measurement being under 3.0mm, and the measurement they got was 3.2mm. It’s so close that likely it would have resolved by my next ultrasound but since we know about it now, my midwife feels like we should investigate it farther just to be sure it’s truly nothing.
So my next ultrasound will be a level 2 done at a larger hospital in the city instead of our smaller local hospital. I very much dislike city driving but thankfully it won’t be at rush hour and the hospital isn’t in the super busy downtown. That will be done on the 22nd.
We also plan on finding out the gender at that ultrasound..the kids are all hoping for a girl! We’ll see. If we go by the baby’s heartbeat wive’s tale, the baby has a girl’s heartbeat (it’s been around 160 each time we’ve checked.)
I’d appreciate any prayers that baby will be developing well and that the ultrasound will give us clear answers on anything we need to know about. Thank you!
