It’s that time of year ago…mosquito season!
Our back yard has cedar hedges along 2 sides so we are definitely not lacking in any mosquitoes. I hate putting the strong, chemical bug spray on the kids, especially the younger ones who still tend to get stuff in their mouths, but seeing them covered in itchy bug bites seems even worse.
I started researching essential oil bug repellent recipes and this is what I decided to make. I still only have the oils that come in the premium starter kit, but if you have a wider selection to choose from in your house, there are tons of recipes out there!
This was super easy to put together.
10 drops EACH of Young Living Thieves, Purification, and peppermint essential oils
3 Tbsp witch hazel
1 cup of water
That’s it! I store mine in a glass jar, and put a little bit in a tinted spray bottle, stored out of sunlight, to have ready when needed.
The day after I made it we went to the local bird sanctuary. The mosquitoes there tend to be BAD. But it worked! I only saw 2 mosquitoes go near the kids, in areas where I hadn’t applied the repellent (hair and hands), my husband saw several hover around himself but never land of him, and I saw one land on my arm and then fly away without biting me. Success!
