New Morning Routines with a Printable and a Link-up

morning high five

Welcome to the very first Busy at Home Link-Up! I asked you all on Facebook what kind of link-up would interest you the most and it seemed pretty much agreed that the best link-up would include any topics related to the home.

I thought of the name Busy at Home from Titus 2:4-5 (NIV)

4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

I hope that we can all encourage each other in these weekly link-ups!

We’ve started a new morning routine at the our house that I wanted to share with you! The children now have to earn a high five every morning.

We’re starting small but as they get used to the flow of it I will add one more item to their list so that they have 5 things to do before they get their high five, instead of the high five being the 5th thing on the list.

As you can see, the kids have to get dressed (and put old laundry in the hamper if need to, or put pj’s on their bed), eat, brush teeth, and do their morning chore before they come and tell me. The High Five page is blank so that you can customize it. I wrote the “finger” list in pen, then slipped the paper into a page protector sleeve. The list of the morning chores is done on top with dry erase marker because I’ll be switching this up every couple of weeks.

We’ve been doing this for a little over a week and it’s gone really well. The only trouble we had was with chore-swapping. The first day both Annie and Tobi agreed to swap their chores. The second day only one of them wanted to, which of course caused conflict. From now on the kids will have to do the chore they’re assigned; no trades. It will be a good lesson that sometimes we need to do a job that may not be our favourite, but we need to do it joyfully nonetheless.

I got this idea from Life as Mom, but her printables for the High Five are all in colour and I only have a black and white printer. I thought that many of you might be in the same boat so I decided to make my own printable to share. You can download your own copy of my free morning High Five printable here.
