I learned to crochet a couple of years ago using online tutorials and youtube videos, but I could not get the hang of knitting!
A couple of months ago, a lovely lady from my church, who just happens to live around the corner from me, showed me a few things to get me started. And I’m slowly getting the hang of it!
I made Annie a headband and I made a dishcloth, both of which had a mistake or two. But then I got bored with the “easy” stuff so I decided to try a couple of different projects.
First, I made myself boot cuffs. Actually, I’ve only finished one. The other has to wait until some Christmas gifts are finished. It was the first time I’ve knit anything in the round (I used circular needs and the magic loop method) so it turned out a bit loose in places, but overall I’m happy with it.
Then I got really brave. I decided to try knitting a doll. It was just too cute to not try. And it turned out well! I did have to fix some mistakes but I think it turned out nicely enough that I’m going to give it to my cousin’s newest baby for Christmas.
I’ve linked to the patterns on Ravelry. I think you need to register with the site to view them but if you knit or crochet, it’s so worth it! And if you don’t, Ravelry will probably inspire you to learn. Or, you can just find something you love and ask a yarn-y friend to make it for you. If you’re on Ravelry and want to become “friends”, my name is RamblingsMom on the site. I also have a new knitting board on Pinterest!
Annie’s shown an interest in learning to knit now so I’m making up a knitting kit for her for Christmas. I’ll show you what I come up with in an upcoming post!
Do you knit or crochet? What have you made lately?
