I like convenience. Which means I like those 5 minute instant puddings.
I found this chocolate pudding recipe on Pinterest and decided to try it. I’m so glad I did; this is the best chocolate pudding recipe I’ve tried yet.
You Need:
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 3 Tbsp cornstarch
- 2.5 cups milk
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 Tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
You Do:
- Mix the cornstarch and sugar in a medium saucepan.

- Slowly add in 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until the sugar and cornstarch is dissolved. Add in the rest of the milk.

- Slowly bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to avoid the milk burning on the bottom of the pot. When it comes to a boil, lower the heat to medium and continue stirring for a few minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla, butter, and chocolate chips.

- Pour into a serving bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap against the surface of the pudding to avoid a skin forming on top. Refrigerate until it sets.

- Let your helper clean up!

This recipe makes a nice thick pudding that is chocolately without being over sweet. Perfect! This would work wonderfully as a chocolate pie filling in a pre-baked crust.
Cooking with the kids makes for fun times for all involved. And there was very little mess with this recipe!

Playing with the measuring cups while the pudding was thickening on the stove.

I have never made pudding from scratch before, but this looks delicious and I love that it is something the girls can help me with. We love spending time in the kitchen.
Would love for you to stop by and link up with my Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen weekly linkup.

Have a great day!
When I was little and my brothers and I would visit my grandparents on their farm in the summer, my grandmother used to make chocolate pudding from scratch for us every Sunday morning. Now – they had a dairy farm, so it was most definitely WHOLE milk being used to make the pudding, and then they poured fresh cream over the warm pudding in the bowl before we ate it. I don’t even want to consider how much fat or calories were contained in each bowl of that pudding, but oh man…it tasted SO good! Warm, sweet chocolate pudding was DEFINITELY an incentive that had us all up and at ‘em early for church!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing at Kids and a Mom in the Kitchen. We have got to make this recipe soon, I am dying to try from scratch pudding.
that looks great! I have tried a few recipes and not been happy with the texture, I think I will give this one a try!
