Gabriel is one month old!

Gabriel one month

It’s hard to believe that as of yesterday, Gabriel is one month old!  He’s growing so fast and his features are becoming more “baby” instead of “newborn” looking.

I’ll find out his exact weight next week, but I’m guessing he’s just over 11 lbs by now.

Having ‘seize the day’ dreams…

I have to be honest, he isn’t my easiest baby. He eats all the time. Hungry boy. If he goes more than 1 to 1-1/2 hours without eating, I start to feel engorged. He also has a strong need to be held. The other day Annie told me, “He’s awake. And he’s not crying!”

He is slowly starting to be awake more in the day. It’s always so interesting to watch new babies take in their surroundings and wonder what they see and what they’re thinking.

Gabriel also isn’t the best sleeper. He tends to wake up every hour and then cry every time I put him down again, whether I put him down awake or sleep. So it often takes 45-60 mins to get him actually to sleep again each time he wakes up. Yea, Mommy’s tired. So if you drop by, expect to see a lot of messiness. Cleaning hasn’t been high priority.

But he’s cute, so I’ll forgive him.

The older kids love him. I think they do get a bit frustrated with how many times I need to tell them, “I’ll be there in a minute” because I’m always feeding Gabriel, but overall they’ve been understanding. There has been a lot of whining and tantrums and I think that is partly related to their adjusting to the baby. We’re working on patience and good attitudes. And trying to get on top of the back-talk, specifically with Annie.

Handsome biggest brother is growing up quickly, too!

Josiah is still pretty jealous. And rough. I slowly see small improvements so I know it will get better.

I’m doing okay. Some days are overwhelming. Louis was given a huge project at work that requires him to work from home most of the time he’s home. That’s been a bit tough. But this too shall pass, and I try to remember to just enjoy my kids rather than focusing on the seemingly-constant whining and tantrums on the harder days.

  1. Laurie :

You’ve got two adorably handsome little boys over there! I remember the days when my 4 were still so little – enjoy it, and keep leaving the house a mess. They grow up SO fast. Our baby is almost 7 now, and man, am I missing those younger years. Thanks for the update!
