Do not grow weary…
Telling that to a mom is like telling a dog not to shed, isn’t it? Maybe not.
And let us now grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
What a great verse. I can’t believe I’ve never really noticed it before. The constant cleaning up, repeating ourselves, breaking up squabbles, cooking, cleaning up, etc. of motherhood can be really, well, wearisome. And yet of all the good things we can be in the world, I think being a Mom ranks pretty high.
I need to remind myself daily (sometimes hourly, or by the minute) that these years are short in the grand scheme of things. These days won’t last forever. My kids won’t always argue about who gets the green scissors, and they also won’t also want to sit on my lap to read or cuddle.
While we are homeschooling, I know that at some point it is likely that the influence of peers may weigh more heavily on my kids than the influence of us, their parents. I can only pray that the seeds we sow in them about God and His word are rooted deeply enough in their hearts by that time that they are able to deal with whatever life throws at them.
I may find it tiresome to always be cleaning up one mess knowing that the kids are likely making another mess in the other room. This too, won’t last forever.
I need to remember to not grow weary while doing good, because eventually this season will end and I’ll likely miss it.
What verse keeps you going when the days are tough? Please share!
