I was just getting comfortable with the social networks that I use and BAM, they had to introduce another.
If it weren’t for Google Friend Connect discontinuing their service for non-blogger blogs, I’m not even sure I would have paid much attention to it. Actually, I know I wouldn’t have, since it’s existed for a while and though I knew about Google+, I had no desire to learn another social network.
So, I’ve made a Google+ page and have been adding others to my circles and trying to promote my own page. But honestly, I’ve still been a bit clueless as to what Google+ can really do for my blog.
Lately I’ve been learning tips and tricks on how to make Google+ work more for me, and I wanted to share a couple of ideas and sites that I’ve found helpful.
I think one of the best tips I’ve read is to make good use of your Recommended Links. To access these, go to your Google+ profile, click on “edit profile”, then click on “recommended links”, which is on the right. Here you can direct your readers to your other links. I included links to my Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as to my Giveaway and Recipe categories from my blog.
Another piece of advice that I had initially overlooked is to make good use of your tagline. Use a catchy yet concise description of your page so that readers can decide quickly that they want to read what you have to say! This will appear under your page title.
Make sure to comment on other pages and remember to update regularly. When you’re starting a new network, it’s easy to forget about it until you’ve gotten used to it.
Here are a couple of sites that will help you build your Google+ community:
Are you on the Google+ bandwagon yet? If not, join in! And please, add me to your circles 🙂 Please leave me a comment with your Google+ link so that I can follow you back.
