A Love Note

February 8, 2012

To my husband,

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already been married for 5 years, and yet it feels like we’ve been married forever. It’s hard to remember life before we were “we.”

Growing up, I honestly never thought about getting married because I didn’t believe anyone would ever want me. When we first met, I really didn’t expect any kind of long term relationship. And yet you tell me that you knew you wanted to marry be within our first few dates. Within a couple of months we were engaged, then married a few more months later.

You were the first person to accept all of me. With you, I feel safe. I don’t have to hide myself because I know you’ll love me no matter what. I hope you know that I’ll love you forever as well.

The Bible says that,

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud.5 Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. 6 Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. 7 Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures. (1 Corinthians 13, NCV)

You’ve been all of this to me. I love how this translation describes love as patient twice. You’ve been so patient with me!  God chose you for me, and I know he chose the best. Even through the hard times, I couldn’t imagine life without you. Because of you, I want to become a better person.

It’s hard to write a love note when I know it will be read by others, but at the same time I  want to share with whoever will read this how blessed I am to have you.  You know probably better than anyone that I am usually not one to share my feelings openly, but I hope you never think that to mean I don’t love you any less than the day we got married. In fact, I love you even more because of all we’ve been through together.

You are so understanding and encouraging. You are a great father to our children. You are thoughtful and are always trying to find ways to make my days easier. You work hard to provide for us so that I can stay at home. You make so many sacrifices for the benefit of our family, and I want you to know that I appreciate it all and love you for it. You push me when I need it (which is often) to become a better person. You tell me over and over that you think I’m beautiful. Even if I don’t always believe it, it’s nice to hear. To top it off, you are nice to look at. 🙂

You’re my prince.

I know there were probably several people who thought we were making a mistake in getting married so quickly. Most likely, a few of them probably didn’t believe our marriage would last. We have each other, and God on our side. So let’s prove them wrong.

I’m taking a moment to express my love in partnership with Grammarly grammar checker. Jotting down a few lines to a loved one is a perfect activity this Valentine’s Day.
