Need a few last minute gifts? Do you have 15 minutes? Make some rice-filled hand warmers!
All you need is some scraps of fabric (for one pair of hand warmers, you need 4 pieces about 3.5 by 4 inches), some rice, and some thread. If you don’t have a sewing machine, this is such a small project that it still wouldn’t take you very long!
Sorry I didn’t take pictures of the process, but it’s so simple that I don’t think you’ll have any problems. Just put 2 pieces of your fabric right sides together, and sew all the way around with a 1/4 inch seam, leaving a couple of inches open to turn. Back-stitch when you start and when you end so that it doesn’t come undone when you turn the fabric right-side out. Clip the corners before you turn it.
Use something with a pointy tip to poke the corners out (I use a chopstick), then, using a funnel, pour some rice into each pouch. Don’t overfill it; you want it mushable (my spell-check says that’s not a word..but I think it should be.) Hand-stitch the openings closed, making sure no rice can fall out. Wrap with a pretty ribbon and add a hand-written tag. Voila! So cute and practical, and they use up fabric scraps, too! Very frugal 🙂 Why not make a stack of them?
