Since we don’t celebrate Halloween in any way, we were eager to get out of the house yesterday evening to avoid having to answer the door over and over, explaining that we had no candy. We decided to treat ourselves to Subway for dinner, then to head over to the dollar store with the kids and purchase gifts to put in our Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child boxes.
The kids did great, picking out toothbrushes, socks, school supplies and toys for the boxes. This morning, they helped to pack them! At first they were asking if any of the presents were for them, but after a while they started to understand that we were giving these gifts to boys and girls far away who didn’t have that many toys or school supplies.
I’m hoping that we will be able to go out every Halloween and have a nice family supper out, then go shopping to fill those Christmas boxes!
