A Day in the Life Plans

Not Back to School Blog Hop

Right now, we don’t really have a daily routine. The kids get up between 6 and 7:30 (Annie and Josiah are early birds, Tobi sleeps in a bit), they eat breakfast when they get hungry, and the rest of the day they just play unless I have something in particular planned. We eat lunch around 11:30 or so, and Annie naps at 2. So, a few things happen at more or less the same times, but no real routine. Josiah is starting to nap at more consistent times, but how that goes really depends if the big(ger) kids wake up too early from his naps.

Which is something I want to change. So, I’ve been trying to think of a routine for us to (more or less) follow strive for. Here is what I’ve come up with so far. I plan on schooling Monday to Thursday, with at least 4 planned school activities each day, and to use Friday for reviewing anything that I feel needs it, or just relaxing and preparing for the weekend.

I put things in 1/2 hour blocks, but I know that that probably won’t happen. This is more what I have in mind for our guideline than a schedule. If the kids finish one thing faster, I have a pull-out drawer thing of educational activities and toys they can play from, or we’ll just move on to the next planned activity.

6:00-8:30 Get up, eat breakfast, get dressed, play quietly a bit, and I want to get them started with a morning chore or two. During this time, I usually have my coffee, and do whatever online stuff I want to get out of the way.

8:30-9:00 Bible Time, memory verse, song, pray for the day.

9:00-9:30 Workbox Activity 1. This can be anything from a craft, to a worksheet, to a story, etc.

9:30-10:00 Workbox Activity 2

10:00-10:30 Snack and some free time

10:30-11:00 Activity 3

11:00-12:30 Free time, prepare and eat lunch, clean up from lunch

12:30-1:00 Activity 4

1:00-1:30 Review memory verse, song, prayer time

And school will be done for the day!

Annie naps around 2:00, and Josiah usually sleeps a bit sometime around then too, so I will try to make a point of having some one-on-one time with Tobi. Then he can do his own thing and I can finish up online stuff that didn’t get done in the morning, or that came up during the day, until it’s time to start getting supper ready.

4:30-6:00 Prepare supper, eat, clean up, kids do their chores from their “job wheel” that weren’t done earlier.

6:00-8:00 play time until bedtime! The kids have a snack at 7:00, and if they’re having a bath that will be around 7:30. We really need to get back in the habit of doing Bible time with the kids before bed, so that will be right after bath time.

If you missed it, here is our curriculum for the year.

Do you have a schedule or routine that your family follows?

  1. It looks like a great routine. We have our own schedule, too, but we follow it more like a routine. I’ve found what works to help keep me/us on track when we are having trouble is to use a timer for those blocks of time, until we can get back into the routine again. May God Bless your school this year.
