I recently was given the chance to read Amish Values for Your Family, by Suzanne Woods Fisher, published by Revell. I’ve always been drawn to Amish values, so I was really looking forward to reading this book.
It was everything I had hoped it would be!
I had a really hard time putting this book down. Using short stories, Amish proverbs, interviews, and excerpts from Amish newsletters, Fisher helps her readers focus on what is truly important in life. Many of the stories made me really look at myself and consider how I would act in a similar situation. Reading this book made me realize that I still have a lot of work to do in how I choose to live my life, and live for God.
Fisher covers several topics, such as forgiveness, simple living, obedience, community, and more. I found the section on parenting the most encouraging I think because it affirmed a lot of how I want to raise my children but that I sometimes feel like others don’t agree with, such as giving children responsibility at a young age. I also learned a lot about how I can improve as a mother, but also as a wife and Christian.
Would I recommend this book? Definitely.
