This year our garden experience started off well, then quickly became discouraging when birds or squirrels ate almost all my seeds before they sprouted. Then what didsprout was eaten as well within days. 2 rows each of beets, carrots, and broccoli, gone. 2 plants each of cucumber, zucchini, and cantaloupe, gone. And poor Tobi; I replanted his pumpkins 3 times but it never grew.
We had planned on getting some tomato plants and bell pepper plants since those hadn’t survived, but we ended up getting a few extra plants. I also have a fantastic aunt who got us some broccoli and napa cabbage plants.
Now our garden is doing pretty well! Not as much variety as I’d planned on, but still pretty good! We have cucumbers growing, zucchini and bell pepper plants are about the flower, and several tomatoes growing. Our herbs are doing well (we have several planted in the garden, and more in pots), and our grape vine that we didn’t think would survive is finally fully green and thriving.
Tobi had planted some peas at the edge of the garden when I wasn’t looking, and those are the only plants from seeds we have this year that are doing well without having had to be replanted. Go figure.
So, praise God! I thought this year I’d have nothing but weeds in my garden and God has blessed us with veggies instead!
Do you have a garden? How’s your garden doing this year? What are you growing?
