40 Days Without Food, by Russ Masterson
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure if I would like this book. Done diary-style, I knew it could either be really good, or really not. It was really good!
In his clear, easy-to-read writing style, Russ takes us through his journey of a 40-day fast he felt God leading him to complete.
Masterson kept a journal of his fast, then openly, and honestly, shares the trials and emotions he experienced throughout the 40 days. Enduring exhaustion, temptation, and stress within his young marriage, he experienced first-hand a new insight of God’s love and control. Russ allows us to see deep inside his heart; the good and the bad. God brought him new meaning to Scripture he’d read many times before (and through reading this book, He brought new meaning to Scripture that I’d read many times before, too.)
It’s an encouraging story about God and a regular man who decided to do what God asked, even though it seemed totally out there. If you are unsure of the direction of your life, or are feeling led to do a fast of any length or type, I would recommend this book.
I received this book for free from Tyndale Publishers. I was not required to post a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own, and were not influenced by any other person or organization.
