This week we focused on the letter H, the sight word “the”, and the Bible verse “Honour your father and your mother.” Tobi has been really resistant lately about writing his letters, so we only got a tiny bit of writing practice in but that’s OK! He surprised me one morning by writing a lower-case “h” beside the upper case “H” I’d written for him to copy on the blackboard. I guess he was so used to seeing Hh on all his papers! So I know he’s taking things in, which is what matters.
The kids played with playdoh a lot this week, and I showed Tobi how to “trace” letters with it.
He coloured in his “colour by number” sight word (which we found at 1+1+1=1).
I printed off a “counting apples” activity for Tobi here (called apple tree math) and they had fun with that, even though they were too excited to actually do the activity properly. Next time! I had Tobi colour in the pictures first, then cut it out and laminated it.
I found out about a site that you can design your own bingo game, so made a simple game of upper case letters for Tobi. I chose to make the cards with a 3×3 grid instead of the usual 5×5, and he loved it! You can make cards in all sorts of themes, or design your own. What a great resource! You can check it out here.
Tobi coloured in his colouring page for the memory verse (also from 1+1+1=1) and he’s getting close to remembering it now.
He really struggles with cutting, so I tried working on him with this a bit this week. He did a bit, then got frustrated and stopped. Something I need to keep working on him with. I’m pretty sure he’s left-handed (he uses both at times, but seems to go for his left more often), so I might need to find him a pair of lefty scissors.
