Since the kids and I were sick the week before last, I didn’t really introduce anything new last week. I kept it still pretty laid-back since we’re still sniffling and coughing lots (though we’re finally starting to get better.)
We did a lot of work-packs this week. Annie’s favourite was the colour matching one. I think it’s already too easy for her though! Was great seeing how the first time she needed help, then she got it and puts it together all by herself with almost no hesitations. She doesn’t say her colours or shapes yet though so when I see her playing with it I try to go over the shapes and colours with her. It was also great seeing Tobi help her with it.
The kids both enjoyed playing with their fabric numbers this week. We worked on putting them in order, and played a game in which I placed the numbers randomly around the room, and called out numbers for them to run and stand on. With Annie, she’d run to numbers on her own and I’ll tell her what number it was.
Tobi worked on a couple of his wipe-off workbooks (workbooks I got at the dollar store, then put the pages into plastic sleeves in a duotang, and he uses a dry-erase marker.) He’s only interested in doing a couple of the pages that he knows, so while he didn’t learn anything new from them, he did work on his motor skills. He still needs a lot of work when it comes to holding a pencil or marker properly.
The kids also played a bit with their colour matching pack this past week. The last time I’d tried it, it was a complete flop that had them fighting over the pieces within minutes. This time I still had to do quite a bit of refereeing, but it was a start. Annie was more interested in just playing with the pieces, and Tobi too for the most part. He did eventually match some objects to their coloured paper. I think it was just too much “new” to look at and they were too distracted, so we’ll keep working on it.
Another big hit this week was the pack of animal dominos. I was able to work on colours and naming animals with Annie, matching with Tobi, and they both enjoyed just making rows and shapes with the dominos.
