This week we went just above our $50 budget I think. The kids and I were sick pretty much all week so we bought extra soup and ginger ale. We also bought more bread since I didn’t really have the energy to make it, and we bought extra milk because I made a new batch of yogurt (though hubby was smart and he found a 2L jug in the discount cooler for just 0.69$ instead of $4.00 full price!) We also bought extra fresh veggies since our meal plan for this week has 2 stir fries in it, and hubby made a big batch of spaghetti sauce (enough for 1 large meal with leftovers, and 3 meals in the freezer.) That also required more tomato sauce. So taking all of that into consideration, I’m not disappointed at all with how much we spent. I think Louis told me that it was all within a few cents of our $50.00 allowance.
We are sooooo loving this challenge! Though we’re starting to run out of some staples and will therefore have a stock-up grocery trip soon, we’ve saved a lot of money, have wasted a lot less food, and it’s been great not having to worry each day about “what do you want for supper?”…..”I don’t know, what do you want?” conversations (which I hate, because since I’m the one at home it’s usually me who had to decide what to take out for supper.)
Here’s our meal plan for this week! Louis revised it a bit from our original since a couple of times we didn’t eat the planned meals from last week due to sickness.
M- beef stir fry on rice
T- Meatloaf cups (Which I have ready in the freezer!)
Th- Turkey stew
F- Pork stir fry on rice
S- Shepard’s pie
Su- Poutine (I think we deserve a treat!)
Have a great week!
