I found this tutorial on making fabric numbers and letters (I haven’t done the letters yet…26 seems like so many!) on Happy Together blog, and decided to try it! The kids actually behaved (more or less) and I was able to get them done in one sitting (except for the occasional getting up to get milk or fix a game.)
I think they’re fantastic! I didn’t do the perfect sewing job since I was rushing a bit, but who cares! The kids certainly don’t, so why should I?
I haven’t thrown them in the washer yet to fray them, so we’ll see how they look later. I have lots of ideas for them. Yesterday we worked on clipping the right number of clothespins onto each number (this activity didn’t last long..only got 1 number done at a time..but it’s a start!)
Annabel just tried learning how to open a clothespin.
I think these things will be great for a number (sorry..pun not intended!) of early math activities. We can lay them on the ground for hopscotch, or spread them out on the floor, make a spinner with the numbers on it, and have the kids jump to the right one. Can count toys and stuff with them too. Can’t wait!
Now..to see if I’ll be brave enough to try the whole alphabet lol.
