This is the first year since I moved out of my dad’s house that we’ve had to pay a heating bill; before, I lived in apartments with heating included in the rent cost. (Actually, that’s not quite true..I spent almost a year in a walk-up apartment in which I had to pay for heating, but it was so poorly insulated that my downstairs neighbour did most of the heating for me. At the time, I had a water bed with a heater, so I was never really cold.) We have an oil furnace, so we really have to be careful about how much we spend on fuel.
We’ve been keeping the house at about 18C (65F) during the day, unless we’re going out for a long time, and about 15.5C (60F) at night. I think it’s been hardest for Louis to get used to because he spent his whole life in apartments in which heating was included, while I got used to putting on the layers before I moved on my own. The kids don’t seem to care at all; I can barely keep pants and socks on them!
What do you keep your thermostat at?
