So this is our first full week of tot school! This week we studied Creation with a tot-book. Tobi loved it! He kept asking to do more “decoration” (what he called the crafts..mainly he just wanted to play with glue.) Annabel helped a bit too..she mainly liked to paint glue onto her hands.
For the tot-book, we did a collage with the 7 days of creation, traced Tobi’s hand and talked about how God made him (and everyone else), learned the song “My God is so Big”, made a counting book with the numbers 1-5 and a picture showing something God made with the proper number of animals, etc to correspond with the number, worked on the verse Genesis 1:1, coloured a Creation mini-book, and made matching cards to match the day to what God made in that day (Yay! I finally got to try out my new laminator!)
We’ll still have to work on the material since Tobi doesn’t quite get it all yet. He’s starting to be able to remember the verse but doesn’t know the days and what God made each day yet. He loves singing the song though! Even Annabel tries to sing along and she does the actions pretty well 🙂
We also did some alphabet work; finding letters and matching upper case to lower case. I made some clothespin cards for upper and lower case letters but ran out of laminating sheets so was only able to do 5 letters. I figured that was a good start though!
We don’t really have a schedule at all…If Tobi seems bored I’ll ask if he wants to do something for school, and it usually lasts about 10 minutes at a time, maybe 2-3 times in a day (not counting randomly asking him if he knows the memory verse, etc.) Looking at other blogs it looks like others may have more of a scheduled tot-school time, but I don’t see how I’d be able to engage Tobi’s attention for much longer. Right now I just want to concentrate on getting him interested and excited about the idea of school so a few minutes a day is good for me!
I know you can get alphabet upper and lower case clothespin pages from 1+1+1, but the ones on that site require a colour printer, which I don’t have. I made my own for just b&w, and added a sticker that corresponded with the letter. I’ll try to figure out a way to post the ones I made here so that if you don’t have a colour printer you can still get a set.
