My husband and I are struggling with a solution for fitting 3 kids in our small 2008 Kia Rio, and I was hoping someone might be able to help. We were thinking of buying a van in the new year, but we really can’t afford it; it would create more debt, and we wouldn’t really be able to kill current debt with all the extra payments on a new vehicle.
We found out about the car seat Radian, that is narrow enough to fit 3 in a row in some cars (they’re 17″ wide.) Our car is very small, however. The only way to see if they’d fit is to buy 3 and try them out, but since we can only find the seat online, we’d really like to avoid that. According to measurements, they could just barely fit in the back, but we had someone else with a slightly different car say she couldn’t fit 3 in hers.
Does anyone have any experience with these seats? The other person (a friend of my cousin’s) said that she couldn’t fit the 3rd seat rear-facing because it’s too tall.
Does anyone know of any other smaller than usual car seats? My husband found one called the Coccoro, I think, but it doesn’t look as nice, and the reviews said it’s hard to keep clean and the mesh fabric tears easily where the baby’s feet hang so I’m not sure I want to spend money on that. Plus, it only goes up to 40 or 45 lbs.
It would be a HUGE relief if we could find a way to avoid having to buy another vehicle, so please, if you have any ideas or bits of advice, please let me know! My current children are too young and small for a backless booster (2.5yrs and 1.5yrs, and 25 and 18lbs respectively) so that complicates things more than they’d maybe have to be.
