I want to spend the next few posts talking a bit about my family, and thought I should start with my husband, since without him there wouldn’t be a family to talk about!
Louis and I met online, on a Christian singles website. I believe God really had a hand in us meeting, since there was only a small window of time we had the chance to connect. I’d gone online to check it out after receiving a “special offer” of three more free days – the site’s attempt at enticing me to pay for membership. Louis was also on a 3-day special offer. I received his email the night before my time expired, and we connected via instant messenger the next day. The following day was my birthday, so we met in person the day after my 21st birthday.
I’d never dated anyone before, and didn’t really know what I was doing, but surprisingly (to me) it didn’t take too long to feel comfortable with Louis. We got engaged very quickly, only 2 months after meeting, and married 3 months later on January 13, 2007.
I’ve heard it said that the first 5 years of marriage are the most difficult. We definitely had our difficult times in the first couple of years. I became pregnant with our son only 2 months after w married, so we never really had time to learn to be spouses before we were suddenly parents. Not that I would change anything; it just was a challenge to find the proper balance between being a spouse and a parent.
In the 3.5 years that we’ve been married, we’ve had a lot of changes in our lives! We’ve had 2 children, moved several times (4 times), Louis has changed jobs a few times before finding his current place of work shortly before our son was born. My husband grew up in the city, and now we live in the country. We just bought our first house a month ago, and have been making the transition from being renters to home-owners.
Looking back on the last few years, I can see so much that God has done in our lives, and how he has changed our hearts. It’s a good thing marriage lasts forever; it gives me more time to get it right!
I am indescribably blessed to have been given such a loving, kind, compassionate husband. As a teen, I never thought anyone would want me; I’ve been proven wrong!
Lord, thank you for my husband Louis. Thank you for shaping him into who he is. I pray that you would help me to be the wife you want me to be; a true helpmeet. Please give my husband the wisdom he needs to fulfill the role You have given him in our family. Amen.
